Meet the Instructors
Here at Leeds Jiu Jitsu Club, we are fortunate to have a great set of instructors with 25 years of combined experience.
Sensei Chris Wingate – 1st Kyu (Lead Instructor)
Chris began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 1999, whilst he was a university student in Bath. After completing his degree, he trained in various clubs across the country, and eventually moved back to Leeds to train at Leeds Jiu Jitsu Club. He’s been the lead instructor since 2013, where he’s got a strong focus on striking, groundwork and no-nonsense Jiu Jitsu.
Sensei Craig Poku – 1st Kyu
Craig started Jiu Jitsu in London back in 2012. He then moved to Leeds in 2015, where he went on to join the Leeds University Jiu Jitsu club, and joined the Leeds Jiu Jitsu Club teaching team in 2018. Craig has had a very strong focus on movement and core principles in Jiu Jitsu, and this has been developed at both national and international events.
Sensei Nick Francisco – 1st Kyu
Nick started Jiu Jitsu as a novice at Leeds University Jiu Jitsu club in 2001, and went on to achieve his brown belt in 2010. Nick has trained in martial arts since his teenage years, however, his passion for the style as kept him on the mat till this day. The number of Physics and Engineering principles he keeps referring to in Jiu jitsu, indicates that he is some sort of technical person.
